Norway is really known for its unique nature. According to Rough Guides, which is a leading publisher of travel and reference information, Norway is actually voted one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and nature has a lot to do with it.
Norway is known for having beautiful fjords. A fjord is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs. Clearly Americans find Norwegian nature beautiful too, because Arendelle, where the Disney movie Frozen is taking place, is based of Norwegian nature. The production team even went there to get inspired, and they loved it.
There is a lot of snow in Norway during the winter. It’s actually considered ‘the home of skiing’. Many families have cabins in the mountains of Norway, and the most common place is called Trysil. It’s about a three hours North of Oslo, the capital. It’s a popular place to go during winter and Easter because it’s perfect to go skiing, both downhill and cross-country.
Seeing The Northern Light is on a lot of people’s bucket list. You’re able see the Northern lights in the Northern parts of Norway. This is a beautiful natural phenomenon. According to an article published by the Guardian in March 2007, the Northern Light is considered one of the seven wonders of the natural world. The Northern light is one of many reasons why people describe Norway as magical, because how else would you explain it?
If you go to Norway and want the real winter experience you should definitely go to Svalbard. Svalbard is located in the north of Norway and it’s only about 700 miles away from the actual North Pole. In the summer from May 18th to July 26th, the sun never sets there. In the winter, however, the sun disappears for three months between November and January. Glaciers cover more than half of Svalbard. According to Gunn Jaklin in the article called ‘Glaciers’ published by the Arctic System, there are more than 2100 glaciers and nearly 60% of the land is covered by ice. There are also wild polar bear walking around, which is incredible. There is so much to do and see there, for instance you can go dog sledding, you can rent snowmobiles or you can hike and go on expeditions.
