Travelling from the United States to Norway isn’t too bad. The most common airlines are Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Norwegian. They both have nonstop flights from big cities in the United States such as Chicago, New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles and Houston to big cities in Norway such as Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, and Trondheim. Depending on where you’re coming from, the flights takes around 7-10 hours. The price for a round-trip obviously varies with season, but it’s usually around $700-800.
When you should leave definitely depends on whether you want the winter experience or the summer experience. Most people go during the high season, which would be somewhere between the middle of June to the middle of August. This way you’ll hopefully get nice weather, but you can still go to the northern part of Norway to feel the colder temperatures. Even though you might decide to go during summer, be aware that that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s hot. It’s hotter than in the winter, obviously, but the average temperature during July and August is only around 62 Fahrenheit. In other words, bring pants and sweaters just in case.
